Omaha women's basketball team defeats Denver 100-78

The Omaha women’s basketball team capped the regular season in a big way Saturday afternoon, defeating Denver 100-78 on Senior Day at Baxter Arena.  With the win, the Mavericks improved to 15-14 (8-8 Summit League) and locked down the No. 5 seed for next weekend’s Summit League Tournament, while the Pioneers dropped to 6-23 (3-13 Summit League).

Senior forward Mikaela Shaw led all scorers with 24 points, shooting 10-of-17 from the field.  The Deweese, Neb., native added a game-high six rebounds and two assists.  Senior forward Michaela Dapprich went over the 20-point mark for the third straight game, scoring 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor.  She added four assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Junior guard Remy Davenport chipped in 15 points on a 5-of-12 effort from the floor, including five three-pointers.  Sophomore guard Ellie Brecht added 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field.  Sophomore guard Amber Vidal set a career-high with 11 assists in the game to go along with seven points.  Senior guard Abi Lujan rounded things out with three points, five boards, two assists and two steals.

Omaha had its highest field-goal percentage of the season, shooting 56.1 percent (37-of-66) from the floor.  The Mavericks were also 41.7 percent (15-of-36) from beyond the arc and 68.8 percent (11-of-16) from the free throw line, and they finished with a 24-13 advantage in steals.

Omaha returns to action at the Summit League Tournament, March 4-7, in Sioux Falls, S.D.  A full bracket will be released at the conclusion of regular-season play on Saturday, Feb. 25.
