LINCOLN (KMTV) — While Huskers head coach Scott Frost wouldn't announce a formal depth chart on Monday, he did confirm Adrian Martinez will be Nebraska's starting quarterback to begin the year.

"Adrian's going to be our quarterback," said Frost.

Martinez had been battling redshirt freshman Luke McCaffrey for the starting job.

"I don't know how much separation there is," Frost said. "I think we have two first-string quarterbacks."

After a long offseason that included the Big Ten changing its mind multiple times, the Nebraska football team will kickoff its 2020 season this Saturday at 5th ranked Ohio State.

"I'm excited getting to play Ohio State week one," said Adrian Martinez. "We fought to play. So we're excited to play."

"I'm excited it's here," Frost said. "We didn't know if we were practicing for a reason or not."

Martinez was named one of five team captains for NU on Saturday.

"It's been tough," said wide receiver and fellow captain Kade Warner. "The uncertainty's been the toughest part. After hitting each other for countless months, we're ready to hit somebody else."

The Huskers visit an Ohio State team it lost to 48-7 last year in Lincoln.

"It's no secret they're a great team year in and year out," said senior captain & cornerback DiCaprio Bootle.

Saturday's opener starts at 11 a.m. on Fox.
