Tecumseh inmate serving life sentence dies after assault

Tecumseh State Correctional Institution inmate Anthony Davis, 40, died Saturday after being treated for injuries sustained in an assault by another inmate.

Davis died at approximately 7:00 p.m. at Bryan Medical Center-West in Lincoln. The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) says Davis had been hospitalized since Sept. 16.

He was being treated for injuries he sustained in an assault by another inmate. NDCS says that inmate is not being identified while investigation into that incident continues.

Davis was serving a life sentence for three counts of first degree murder and three counts of using a weapon to commit a felony out of Douglas County. His sentence began May 6, 2014.

The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the death.

Whenever an inmate dies in NDCS custody, a grand jury conducts an investigation.
