Spring starts Thursday night

Spring officially begins tomorrow, March 19th at 10:50 pm. So, the first full day of spring will be on Friday, but goodness, Thursday and Friday will be totally different weather days!

Thursday will be very spring-like. Temperatures for many of us will start in the low 50s and then warm into the 60s and even a couple of low 70s are possible farther south. We’ll see some morning rain and storms, and then a chance for a few more afternoon/evening showers and storms. Some of those storms will be on the strong to severe side with strong winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado being the main threats. (It’s been a while since we’ve dealt with severe storms!) While we’re dealing with strong to severe storms, areas to our west will be dealing with a winter storm.

Then, the cold front arrives and our breezy south winds become strong north winds while our temperatures plummet. Winter returns on Friday with highs near 30 and some of us will see Thursday’s rain switch over to some snow overnight into Friday morning. The best area to see accumulating snow will be in northeastern Nebraska. While we’ll likely see some snow in Omaha, accumulation will be very light.
