OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — WP Engine, a WordPress management site, announced today it has entered into an agreement to acquire fast-growing Omaha-based tech company Flywheel. Based in Austin, TX, WP Engine has offices worldwide.
Flywheel is a WordPress hosting and management company founded in 2012 by Dusty Davidson, Tony Noecker and Rick Knudtson. The founders have gained attention due to the company's rapid growth in Omaha, serving more than 28,000 customers globally.
Flywheel focuses on the creation of targeted, innovative products to help agencies advance their business on WordPress.
WordPress is a free content management system often associated with blogging but includes other web content. According to a press release from WP Engine, WordPress powers 34 percent of the web and is the fastest growing content management system in the world.
The company will keep its Flywheel name, our partners at the Omaha World-Herald say. The union should allow the company's workforce to grow from its current 200 employees.
In October, Flywheel was announced as a tenant of a $300 million redevelopment project planned for North Downtown.
