Alonzo Mitchell remembered as father figure

A man who worked to shape lives of children in the North Omaha community was recognized Tuesday by the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. 

Alonzo Mitchell, known in the community as "Coach Mitch," was dedicated to serving young people, through his work a the Douglas County Juvenile Assessment Center. 

He also served as both a mentor and coach for many Omaha kids and teens, working with Team Nebraska Express. His family was basketball was a huge part of his life and losing him unexpectedly at age 53 was tragic. 

"I had 19 minutes to digest my brother being in the hospital, then unresponsive and now gone," his sister Upanda Mozee said.
