BOYS TOWN, Neb. (KMTV) — The Christmas spirit has arrived in Boys Town this weekend.

On Saturday, the campus lit up for the holiday season, hopefully spreading a little joy on a dark year.

“A lot of kids that come to Boys Town, sometimes they haven’t had great situations at home and this helps them to have at least one good Christmas in their life growing up," said Fr. Steven Boes, president of Boys Town. "I think that’s important to Boys Town.”

Normally, Boys Town would invite its residents to a gather in the Great Hall for the Christmas in Our Village celebration.

Here, children could sit on Santa’s lap, take photos and enjoy some hot chocolate and cookies.

But this year, with COVID-19 they’ve had to adapt.

“So we’re doing a virtual version of it, they’ll drive around in their vans in just a few minutes, see the lights; they got to see it live-streamed to their home," Boes said, referring to the tree lighting. "They’ll see the lights, and they’ll meet Santa, just virtually. They’ll gets some gifts, some pizza and then go home and have a great celebration.”

Though it wasn’t the traditional celebration, the village came together to make some new Christmas memories for the children.
