Tonight, Creighton students are mourning the death of a 20 year old nursing student.
Vindhya Puttagunta of Folsom, California was lying in the street around one this morning at 27th and Burt, when the car hit her and kept on going.
Reporter Vandra Caldwell was at St. John's Catholic Church tonight for a prayer service.

"She's a really kind of captivating, friendly student."

That's how Creighton University's Dr. Guy McHendry describes 20 year old Vindhya Puttagunta who was struck by a vehicle near 27th and Burt early Wednesday morning. Police say Puttagunta was lying in the street when a four door sedan hit her and kept going.

Wednesday night friends, students and faculty from Creighton University filed into St. John's Church praising the life lost too soon.
"To see someone who was so talented and with so much potential and just know that's gone is miserable."

Caroline Brosnahan, Puttagunta's sorority sister says her infectious personality is what she'll miss most. "How genuine she was and just happy. She was always happy. There was never a time when I didn't see her smiling."

Brosnahan says she has her sorority sisters there to help her get through this difficult time. "I think it's a good thing to have especially when hard times like this hit, just to have that support system and all lean on each other so we can come together for it."
