According to a release from Omaha Police Department, at 12:58 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, there was a fatal crash on I-80 eastbound near 84th Street.
OPD said a 2006 Mazda Tribute was eastbound on I-80. According to a witness, the Mazda struck the inside median barrier, then crossed all four eastbound lanes before going airborne, rolling, and landing on the 84th St. on-ramp for eastbound I-80.
The Mazda struck an eastbound Chevy pickup that was on the ramp before coming to rest on its roof. The driver of the Chevy was transported to Nebraska Medicine by Omaha Fire Department Medics. The driver of the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mazda was identified as Diojenes Ortiz, 57, of Omaha. The driver of the Chevy was identified as Timothy F. Barry, 60, of Omaha. OPD said that Barry was treated for chest pain and his injuries are not considered life threatening.
The crash is under investigation.
