Interstate closures in Council Bluffs on I-80 and I-29

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The Iowa Department of Transportation has provided updated information about closures on I-80 and I-29 in Council Bluffs. They said they're expecting significant delays as a result and are have suggested an alternate route for I-80 drivers.

Updated interstate closures in Council Bluffs this week

(Council Bluffs, IA – April 24, 2019) – The schedule for interstate closures this week has been updated. All closures are weather permitting and could be rescheduled if weather impacts construction.

  • Wednesday, April 24:
  • The right lane of I-80 westbound Express, just east of South Expressway, will be closed for repairs beginning at 9:00 a.m. Closure will be taken down for the afternoon rush hour by 3:00 p.m.
  • I-29 northbound between Nebraska Avenue and 9th Avenue will be closed overnight from 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning. The I-29 northbound on-ramp at Nebraska Avenue will also be closed.
  • Friday, April 26: The right lane of I-80 westbound Express, just east of South Expressway, will be closed for repairs beginning at 9:00 a.m. Closure will be taken down for the afternoon rush hour by 2:00 p.m.

Iowa DOT anticipates significant delays could occur during the I-80 westbound Express lane closure. Motorists are encouraged to use I-29 northbound/I-80 westbound Local lanes as an alternate route. Please allow for extra travel time while this interstate repair takes place.

Sections of I-29 southbound will remain closed on the way to Kansas City until this summer according to IDOT.
