OMAHA, Neb (KMTV) — Last Thursday, Douglas County Election Commissioner Brian Kruse accepted a recall affidavit to remove Mayor Jean Stothert. Today, she issued a defense statement in response to the document.

Omaha is safe, economically strong and well-managed. We have one of the best police and fire departments anywhere; historic high number of sworn police officers, and lowest number of homicides in 13 years. I have lowered property tax rates, tripled road repair funding, budgeted $320 million for new road infrastructure. We operate ethically, transparently and solicit input from taxpayers.

Recently, Stothert has been under fire by an online group for a number of issues such as potholes, transparency and taxes.

Today, Mayor Stothert announced the free concert series at Memorial Park, Celebrate America, is back on after being canceled.
