Statements on the shooting of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise were given to 3 News Now by both Deb Fischer and Ben Sasse this morning.
Scalise is in stable condition after being shot in the hip while practicing for the Congressional baseball game in Alexandria, Virginia.
“The senator and her staff are all safe and praying for the injured. She extends her deepest gratitude to our heroic Capitol police officers, who put their lives on the line every day to keep members, staff, and visitors safe," a statement from a Deb Fischer spokesperson said.
“Senator Sasse often reads classified intelligence on national security operations in the morning. He was in the classified bunker this morning and learned more from law enforcement about the shooting at the practice then," a spokesperson said at 11:30 a.m. "Our prayers are with everyone there and the senator is especially grateful for the heroism of the Capitol Police who acted quickly and courageously.”
