Teen driver booked in fatal Omaha crash

Omaha Police officials say a teenage driver involved in a fatal crash earlier this month in the 600 block Riverfront Drive has been booked. 

OPD officials say after they consulted with the Douglas County Attorney's Office, they booked the 15-year-old suspect into the Douglas County Youth Center.

The teen faces a charge of motor vehicle homicide.

Back on March 18, officials said the investigation revealed the driver was driving in a silver 2007 Toyota Camry.

Officials say he was traveling northbound on Riverfront Drive at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle.

That's when the vehicle struck a metal light pole on the west side of the roadway causing substantial damage to the driver's side of the vehicle.

OPD officials added that 14-year-old Kevin Ramirez-Cabrera, a passenger was transported by Omaha Fire/Rescue personnel to CHI Creighton University Medical Center with extremely critical injuries sustained in the collision.

Ramirez-Cabrera was pronounced dead at the hospital.
