Federal funding will pay for OPD's untested rape kits

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Nearly $2 million in federal funding will help Omaha Police do DNA checks on thousands of untested rape kits.

The backlog has affected not just Omaha, but it is a problem throughout the country. Our partners Omaha World-Herald the money will be used to check the 1,500 untested rape kits. This push is a part of the National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative.

The initiative was started by police and rape survivors.
