SARPY COUNTY, Neb. (KMTV) — Friday night, a head-on crash near Highway 6 and Pflug Road killed an 18-year-old woman and critically injured a 44-year-old man.

Gretna Fire and Rescue and the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office responded to the area at 10:02 p.m. after reports of a personal injury crash.

A red 2014 Ford Fusion, driven by 18-year-old Claire Kresak of Ashland, was driving westbound on Highway 6 and attempted to pass another vehicle going westbound.

Kresak encountered a 2007 Hundai Entourage minivan, driven by 44-year-old Jeffery A. Johnson of Ashland.

The vehicles collided head-on in the eastbound lane of Highway 6, just east of Pflug Road.

Kresak was unresponsive at the scene and was transported by helicopter to Nebraska Medicine Trauma Center where she died Saturday evening as a result of her injuries.

Johnson was taken to Nebraska Medicine with critical injuries but is expected to survive, according to Sarpy County authorities.

The South Metro Crash response team responded to the scene. Highway 6 was closed in both directions until approximately 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
