Authorities recover body from lake near Waterloo

UPDATE 5 A.M. Monday: The name of the victim has been identified as John Philp. Philp's boat was found on an island in the lake.

An autopsy has been requested to determine the actual cause of death.

ORIGINAL STORY

Authorities recovered the body of a man Sunday who drowned in West Shores Lake near Waterloo, our partners at the Omaha World-Herald say.

Fire departments from Omaha, Waterloo and Valley participated in the search. Authorities learned of the drowning shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday.

Rescue workers searched the area for hours.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family. No details have been released regarding where exactly the victim was found or what led to his death.

West Shores Lake is located at 24340 Douglas Cir., a 203-acre residential area near the intersection of U.S. Highway 275 and West Dodge Road.
