OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — A bunch of kids were at the hospital this weekend--but we promise it was all for a good cause.
Former patients of Nebraska Medicine's Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) got the chance to return with their families to see the doctors and nurses that helped care for them right after they were born.
"There's no emotions off limits in the NICU--we have tragedy, we have miracles--and so when you have all those emotions, you get this incredible bond with families," said NICU nurse Jane Andersen.
One parent who had three of her children cared for by medical professionals in the NICU says it's a little bittersweet to be back, but wants to thank those who helped her kids during those tough times.
"They've gone through a lot of surgeries, a lot of ups and downs and the staff here at the NICU, they're our heroes," said Tanya Sabata. "My kids wouldn't be here without them so coming back and seeing their faces is wonderful."
