Omaha Police investigate early Sunday shooting

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Omaha Police are investigating a shooting that took place early Sunday.

Officers responded to the scene at 1:16 a.m.

An 11-year-old witness told officers he heard someone enter the residence at 5124 N 48th Ave and saw the suspect walk into 33-year-old Jateira Austin's room where she was asleep.

The juvenile attempted to intervene with the armed suspect. The witness then retreated and the suspect fired a handgun.

Police say Austin was struck once by the gunfire and taken to Nebraska Medical Center by medics.

Austin, who is pregnant, suffered a non-life threatening injury.
