OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — A single-vehicle crash near N 36th Ave and Redick Ave Friday night left one dead.

Officers were dispatched to the area at 11:03 p.m., with investigation revealing a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox was southbound on Martin Ave approaching Redick Ave when the driver failed to navigate the curve in the roadway.

The Chevrolet left the roadway to the right, just south of Redick Ave and N 36th Ave, according to Omaha Police. The driver struck a retaining wall then a tree head-on.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was identified as Jamel Wallace, 30. Wallace was extricated and transported by medics to Nebraska Medicine where he died shortly after arrival.

Omaha Police say speed is considered a factor in the crash.
