AVOCA, Iowa. (KMTV) — Three were injured in a three-vehicle accident Monday morning north of Avoca near the Flying J truck stop.

The accident occurred around 11 a.m. at F66 and Hwy 59.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 62-year-old Duane J. Carroll was stopped northbound on Hwy 59 at the intersection of F66 in a 2002 Chevy Silverado.

Carroll was waiting to turn left as Timothy Ward, 43, was approaching southbound on Hwy 59 in a 2005 Peterbilt tractor-trailer.

Joel T. Andersen, 32, was heading northbound on Hwy 59 in a 2004 Buick Ranier approaching Carroll's vehicle and failed to stop, rear-ending Carroll's vehicle.

Carroll rolled through into the southbound lane and was struck by Ward's tractor-trailer.

Ward entered the west ditch and overturned the vehicle onto its side.

Carroll and Andersen came to a stop on the roadway.

Andersen and Ward were transported to Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan and Caroll was transported by Lifenet Helicopter to Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.
