BELLEVUE, Neb. (KMTV) — Officials with Offutt Air Force Base confirm that an active duty member and their spouse are dead following a shooting Saturday night at a home in Rising View, Offutt's off-base housing area.
Law enforcement from Offutt and Sarpy County responded to the home around 8:15 p.m.
Shortly after officials arrived at the scene, two individuals were confirmed dead.
55th Wing spokesman Ryan Hansen says the Offutt airman killed in the shooting of the couple was Tech. Sgt. Zachary Firlik.
Firlik was an assistant flight chief in the 55th Security Forces Squadron, according to Hansen. He arrived at Offutt in April and had served in the Air Force since June 2002.
Firlik's wife, 35-year-old Kari Firlik was the other person killed. They left behind three children.
"Kari was very artistic, outgoing, and loving. Her smile would light up a room and her enthusiasm was infectious." Kari's father told KMTV.
The Air Force Office of Special Investigations detachment at the base is leading the investigation.
