OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on Waste Management, the company that handles Omaha's garbage and recycling needs, the collections of recyclable materials will be reduced.

Starting on Monday, June 29, Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert said collections will only happen every other week for homes in the city. She also said the change will not be temporary as Omaha is about six months away from the end of its contract with the company.

Drivers that would normally be on recycling pickups will be freed up to handle solid waste collection instead.

A postcard explaining the new setup will come out later this week and a link on the city's website will allow residents to see which week their recycling pickups will fall on.
