Monday's high winds did not help firefighters battle a large brush fire near N.P. Dodge Park.
Firefighters from several departments including Omaha, Ponca Hills, Fort Calhoun and Irvington spent several hours trying to fight the flames. Crews had a difficult time reaching some areas where the fire was burning. At one point they called in a firefighting boat from Council Bluffs to fight the fire from the Missouri River.
Monday night, the Ponca Hills Fire Department was in command of the scene. They tell 3 News Now that after cutting a fire line, crews are allowing the fire to burn. It's expected to burn through the night.
