A phone call by a break in victim leads to a big break in a metro area theft ring.

On June 18, Zach Grady called Play It Again Sports on 84th & W. Center Rd. to ask them to be on the lookout for his golf clubs because his wife's vehicle was stolen with his clubs inside.

The Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office says 30 minutes later someone came to the store trying to sell his clubs and employees delayed the man until police arrived. Officers cited and released Robert Perrigo, 32, for misdemeanor theft.

Now, deputies have issued a felony arrest warrant for Perrigo because the investigation led them to other crimes.  Deputies believe Perrigo and his associates stole golf clubs, construction fixtures, electronics, and other items out of vehicles and homes under construction in the Ida St. corridor between 120th and 72nd Streets.

Some thefts were recent while others date back months.  Items stolen have been in the tens of thousands of dollars, and it's believed Perrigo and his associates committed up to 15 different thefts or used stolen credit cards in Omaha, Sarpy County, and Council Bluffs.

"The identification of him has kind of snowballed into the identification of several of his associates," said Douglas Co. Sheriff Deputy Michael Dechellis.  "The case just keeps expanding into other jurisdictions and other areas of criminal activity that we weren't initially aware of that they were involved with."

If you have information on where Perrigo is call the Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office at 402-444-6000.
