Council Bluffs woman hit by car Sunday

A woman is in the hospital after being hit by a car Sunday in Council Bluffs.

It happened around 7 p.m. near the Pilot Travel Center on 24th Street and 27th Avenue.

Police said Charolette Meyer, 64, suffered a broken leg, fractured ribs, a minor brain bleed and a cut above her right eye after being hit by a car driven by 66-year-old Cheryl Larson.

Investigators said Larson told them she swerved to avoid hit a man walking in the street and hit Meyer.

“The driver said she did not see them due to their wearing dark clothing and the weather conditions,” the Council Bluffs Police Department said in a statement Sunday.

Visibility was reduced because of rain, police said, adding that speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash.
