Snow is coating the streets tonight - leaving very slick driving conditions.
The driver of a pick-up truck, died when he lost control on Highway 50 near Fairview Road, south of Werner Park. SCSO officials say the driver braked, skidded and crashed. The impact threw him out of the truck, which erupted in flames.
"Due to weather conditions and possibly speed, unsure at this time, but the vehicle put on its brakes and began to skid and slide, went into the northbound lane and into the ditch," said Lieutenant Mark Topil, Sarpy County Sheriff Office.
At this time, it is not known if the driver was wearing a seatbelt and his identity has yet to be released.
Southbound was reduced to one lane and northbound traffic was blocked for several hours.
"Due to conditions and the cold - these investigators are going to be out here for quite a while. It might take a little longer now that they have to stop and get inside vehicles to warm up," said Topil.
Officials say weather was most likely a factor but are still investigating the cause.
Once we get more information, we will update it here.
