OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — This Morning, Douglas County Sheriff's Deputies responded to an accident on Blair High Road and Highway 36 involving a semi truck and a small car. Upon investigating, they found one person dead.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office sent out this release regarding the incident:
On Friday December 20, 2019, Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an injury accident at Hwy 36 and Blair High Road (also known as Hwy 133). Upon arrival, Deputies observed a Toyota Camry and a Freightliner Semi Tractor/Trailer off the roadway of southbound Blair High Road, just south of Hwy 36.
A preliminary investigation revealed the Toyota was Northbound on Blair High Rd in the turn lane to turn West onto Highway 36. The Freightliner was Southbound on Blair High Rd. The Toyota attempted to make the turn and was struck on the passenger side by the oncoming semi. The driver of the Toyota, Heriberto Martinez-Torres, 38, of Omaha, died at the scene as result of his injuries. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The driver of the semi, Dale Laflin, of Orchard, NE was not injured. Both drivers were wearing a seat belt. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement was requested to inspect the semi tractor/trailer. No citations were issued at the scene as the investigation is ongoing.
