OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The pandemic has taken a financial toll on many — and on Thursday, volunteers with the Open Door Mission stepped in to help out for Thanksgiving.
To keep things safe, only a minimal number of volunteers were allowed in the building and everyone had to social distance. They told KMTV it was important to find a way to do it because this year the need is as great as ever.
"We've actually expanded our holiday programs to meet the need. There's a 50 percent increase in food insecurity issues in our community," said Candace Gregory, President/CEO of Open Door Mission.
The meal was served in shifts to help with the social distancing.
