A century old symbol of Omaha is being revitalized to become a mainstay of the Blackstone neighborhood once again.
Developers GreenSlate and Clarity are pouring $75 million into redoing the Blackstone Hotel on 36th and Farnam.
The hotel, which was built in 1915 and added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1985, was a mainstay of the Gold Coast Era of Omaha. The developers hope to turn the building back into a luxury hotel by 2020.
After it was originally built, some guests would stay in the space for months and even years. It featured a ballroom, restaurants and marble staircase and GreenSlate and Clarity hope to recapture that grandeur.
The renovation project will feature luxury rooms, a pool, grand ballroom, a fitness center and restaurants.
The developers are applying for tax increment financing and funds through state and national historical grants.
