Officials with the Douglas County Department of Corrections are investigating a in-custody death on Friday.

Officials said at around 7:11 am, a staff  observed a male inmate lying on his bunk in a double cell room inside of a housing unit.

As the individual appeared to be unresponsive, staff announced a medical emergency and initiated CPR.

Authorities say that medical staff immediately responded, assisted in first aid efforts, and directed that 911 be contacted.

The Omaha Fire Department also responded to the scene.

A determination was made that the inmate was dead.

The man was identified as 61-year-old Michael Felder.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has initiated an investigation as is required by state law for any in-custody death.
