Early morning crash leaves one person dead

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Omaha Police are investigating the cause of a crash that left one person dead.

Around 1 a.m., officers reported a car was driving on South 28th Street from Martha Street when the vehicle left the roadway, hitting a stop sign, fence, and then a tree. The driver, 22-year-old Austin Johnson, was transported to Nebraska Medicine where he was pronounced dead.

Police blocked off traffic in the area for more than two hours.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and speed and alcohol are being investigated as contributing factors. This is a developing story and we will bring you more information as it becomes available.
