Just a day after a teen was murdered in Northeast Omaha his family is coming together in need of support from the community.

“A 16 year old kid lost his life, a mother lost her son, his siblings lost their brother and I lost my cousin," said Markeise Dunn’s cousin Jasmine Cook.

Saturday morning Markeiese Dunn was shot multiple times near 24th and Pratt Street.

He was rushed to Creighton Medical Center where he later died.

"Considering it happened in broad daylight and they have two car descriptions, I'm just hoping they can take the steps to figure out who did this," Cook said.

Dunn's cousin Cook says she immediately wanted to find a way to help support her family.

"I don't have $300 to give so if I can make $300 to give that will make me feel good," Cook said.

So she’s serving dinners to the community for six dollars a plate, hoping to help cover funeral cost for Dunn.

"Any little bit is going help right now," Cook said.

His mother says she's devastated and did not want to speak on camera, but she describes Dunn as the average teenager that loved his family.

"It's heartbreaking," Cook said.

The family is holding a candlelight vigil Monday evening near 24th and Pratt Street.

Dunn’s family has also set up a Go Fund Me page to help raise money for funeral expenses.
