Family mourns man killed outside South O apartment complex

Posted

As police continue to search for the killer of 23-year-old Lamond Strong, his family and the community pray for strength and understanding.

"We just feel like a piece of our puzzle is gone," says Monickie Strong, Lamond's sister. "It'll never be the same without Lamond."

Strong was shot around 4:30 Tuesday morning outside the Southside Terrace Garden Apartments in South Omaha near 29th and U Street. He later died at the hospital.

Monickie says her brother was a family man and left behind two kids - a 2-year-old and a 3-month-old baby.

"His kids were his world. So when he see his kids or my mom, his prized-possession, that was just everything to him," adds Monickie. "He was the funny guy. He was the guy that if you were down, he was going to make you laugh. And you're going to laugh. That was his mission when he saw somebody down."

Monickie says she and her family are relying on their faith and the community to get past the senseless act of gun violence that took her brother's life.

"There's nothing that I can say to get him back. We can't do anything to get him back so all we can do is rely on God because I know that as long as we keep our faith, then the Man upstairs is going to come through. And ask God to forgive the person who did this, so that we can forgive so that my family can have closure. That's all we want. To have closure."

The family asks that anyone with information on the shooting come forward and contact police.
