The Big 10 Baseball Tournament is back at TD Ameritrade Park but without a familiar name.

The hometown Nebraska Cornhuskers did not make the field of 8 teams represented in the conference tourney.

It’s the first time the tournament been held at TD Ameritrade Park since 2016, and in 2014 they broke the attendance record with more than 60,000 people.

MECA says fans purchased 5,000 all session tickets before the event began on Wednesday.  They say Husker fans are showing up to watch great baseball even though the team isn’t in the tournament.

“We’re disappointed obviously Nebraska didn’t make it and two years ago they were one and done but we just enjoy college baseball.  There probably won’t be as many Husker fans come out but hopefully with Iowa nearby and Minnesota we’ve met some Minnesota fans and Minnesota won the big 10 so hopefully we’ll have some decent crowds,” said Marty Buckingham, a Husker fan.

MECA says the clear bag policy is in effect for the Big 10 Tournament and will also be in place for the College World Series in June.  Clutch purses 4.5 x 6.5 inches are allowed. Anything larger than that has to be in a clear bag no bigger than 12 x 12 inches.
