Harlem Globetrotter makes surprise visit to meet trick shot artist

WEST POINT, Neb. (KMTV) - A Nebraska Special Olympics athlete had quite the surprise at his high school Monday evening when a Harlem Globetrotter traveled to his school for a visit.

West Point -Beemer senior James Meiergerd sank a backward half-court shot at halftime of West Point's game against Wisner-Pilger earlier this month. The shot was captured online, had more than 55-thousand views on Instagram, and was featured on "ABC World News Tonight."

Meiergerd's mom shared the video with the Harlem Globetrotters, who sent one of the players, Orlando Melendez, to the school on Monday for a surprise visit.

The Globetrotters also invited Meiergerd to be their guest at their game in Omaha at the CenturyLink Center in April
