With less than four weeks until the mid-term election, Nebraskans had a chance to discuss Medicaid expansion in Omaha Thursday evening.
As required by state law, Secretary of State John Gale is hosting three public hearings on measure 427, which if approved, would provide medical coverage to nearly 90,000 Nebraskans who currently do not qualify.
On Thursday, a few dozen people met at the Omaha TAC Building to give voters an opportunity to learn more about the initiative's pros and cons.
Supporters and opponents took turns on the podium, sharing their experiences and addressing their thoughts on the measure.
There was a slightly higher number of supporters at the meeting.
Gale will host two other hearings in October.
The second hearing will be scheduled at the Nebraska Capitol on Oct. 16. The final hearing will be held at College Park of Grand Island on Oct. 30. All hearings begin at 6 p.m.
