OMAHA, NE — The Elkhorn South JV baseball team did more on Monday than bat around baseballs.
A group of them got together with Hy-Vee to provide a hot meal to evacuees, most from Valley, who are currently staying at the Hampton Inn near 175th and Highway 275.
The teens served the dinner, cleaned up, and spent time with people who are waiting to get back home and see if their homes made it through the floods.
One of the evacuees, Russ Shuey, said he and his wife left on Friday before roads were cut off by flood waters.
"These are a great bunch of kids. It was a Midwestern gracious thing to do," Shuey said.
Shuey says he is pretty sure his home survived. A neighbor who was still in Valley sent Shuey a picture of his home, which appeared to be dry.
