Nearly 20,000 people lined up near 14th and Farnam Streets to witness Gene Leahy Mall and surrounding streets for the annual Thanksgiving Lighting Ceremony.
The glowing display of thousands of white lights was illuminated by city workers after Mayor Jean Stothert led the countdown to the 2016 lighting display.
Festivalgoers also witnessed a special performance by a local mother-daughter duo, Belles & Whistles.
The lighting ceremony serves as the kickoff event for the five week-long Holiday Lights Festival, which includes a variety of events for people to celebrate the holiday spirit.
This year's festival will feature the Making Spirits Bright Holiday Concert, the Conagra Brands Ice Rink, Wells Fargo Family Festival, Sounds of the Season, and the New Year's Eve Fireworks Spectacular.
