La Vista starts the process of getting a brand new downtown.
On Wednesday, La Vista city leaders along with the developer City Ventures broke ground on the nearly 200-million dollar project.
“When La Vista was formed years ago the downtown just wasn't part of it,” said La Vista Mayor Doug Kindig.
But now it will, the new City Centre is a one-mile stretch along 84th street on the east side. Kindig wants this development to attract people from across the metro, “We want this to be different, we don't want the people and in the omaha metro area to drive by 3-4 places that are going to be exactly like this.”
This mixed use development will offer 384 apartments, office space, retail with the hopes of unique restaurants, bars and other amenities.
The city is also transforming the former golf course into Civic Centre Park which includes a new lake and the expansion of the pond closest to the clubhouse.
This project is partially paid for my the half-cent sales tax voters approved about three years ago.
Developers hope to have the project completed in a few years and start work next week.
