The man accused of shooting an Omaha Gang Unit officer at point blank range in September appeared before a judge for the first time after being released from the hospital.

Bond was set at $3 million for John Ezell Jr. and he is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault on officer and weapon charges.

Prosecutors say the 36-year-old shot officer Ken Fortune during a traffic stop. Ezell was shot by two other OPD officers as he tried to run away. Officer Fortune has since recovered and is back on duty.
