Friends and family of Seth Hansen waited to hear how long 46 year old Dirk Blume will spend in prison for running Hansen over with his pickup on January 7th.

"He was 100 times the man that this guy thinks he is, Seth was awesome, that's all I can say."

The 46 year old former real estate agent got into an altercation with Hansen trying to buy chewing tobacco as the store was closing.

He ran Hansen down as he left the store.

"A very sad tragic senseless act, this shouldn't have happen obviously," said Don Kleine.

Blume and his family sat in court as the judge played back the video from that night, Hansen’s daughter walked out in tears.
Blume told his attorney it was self defense.

"Trying to change the facts and circumstances of what it was, the judge saw through that," said Kleine.

Hansen's sister Eve Shanklin says she's still hurt by the loss of  her brother.
Shanklin says she's not pleased with the 11-16 year sentence.

"We would have hoped for a maximum sentence because it was so senseless but the judge has to consider all the factors," said Kleine.

Blume's attorney argued that Blume was remorseful and only deserves probation, but County Attorney Don Kleine says his actions prove otherwise.

"This isnt a situation where he stops and calls the police and says hey this person was coming after me and I felt I had to leave and ran over him."

Blume will be eligible for parole in five and a half years.

He will get credit for the 329 days he's already spent in jail.
