Megan Hunt made history in the State of Nebraska on election night by becoming the first openly LGBTQ person ever elected to the State Legislature.
Hunt defeated Mina Davis in the eighth district, which covers Benson and Dundee, getting 63 percent of the vote.
The group Victory Fund, which supports LGBTQ candidates across the country, made Hunt a spotlight candidate in its national effort.
Before Tuesday, Nebraska was one of seven states that had never elected an openly LGBTQ person to the legislature.
