OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Firefighter Drew Gerken is being presented with the Firefighter Hero Award from the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) this Thursday for his work in helping families recover after fires.
Gerken established The Furniture Project in Omaha which helps families who have lost their belongings in fires. The project works to provide furnishings to those families to help them get back on their feet.
Gerken organizes teams of volunteers that pick up donated furniture and then deliver that furniture to families in need.
Gerken will be honored in a ceremony by MAGLITE® and the NFFF this Thursday at 10 a.m. at Omaha Fire Station 34.
