Omaha Police give details of fatal Old Market shooting

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - Joined by Mayor Jean Stothert and Fire Chief Dan Olsen, Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer held a press conference on the shooting in the Old Market that killed 20-year-old bystander Jasmine Harris. 

Schmaderer said the shooting involved two rival gangs with a gunman in each group, many of the seven victims were bystanders in the area like Harris. Schmaderer added the department knows what gangs are involved and that it is the same members "over and over again" involved in shootings around Omaha. 

In total, five people were transported to the hospital, according to Olsen. 

There are several persons of interest in the case. 

Schmaderer said there will be extra officers assigned to the downtown area during the College World Series and more officers will be assigned to the Gang Unit.
