OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — No one was injured during a shooting on Saturday night, in part thanks to two patrons of Sugars Lounge in Council Bluffs who brought a man to the ground who was allegedly firing a rifle at patrons of the business.

Officers responded to 2725 E. Kanesville Blvd. around 11:30pm for reports of a man shooting a gun in the parking lot. Officers say when they arrived, they found Benjamin Merksick on the ground in the custody of two patrons.

Those at the lounge told officers that Merksick had gotten into an argument inside the establishment and went outside to his vehicle to grab a rifle. The man then allegedly shot the rifle several times in the vicinity of many patrons.

While Merksick was attempting to reload, two of the patrons were able to take him to the ground before officers arrived. There were no injuries reported at the time of the incident.

Merksick was transported to Pottawattamie County Corrections and charged with Attempted Murder, Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon and Going Armed with Intent.
