Federal relief is on its way for 18 Nebraska counties affected by mid-June storms, Gov. Pete Ricketts announced Tuesday.
Douglas, Sarpy, Cass and Saunders counties are among those receiving aid for the millions of dollars in damages sustained during multiple severe storms June 12-17 that produced tornados, hail as big as baseballs, flooding, and straights winds exceeding 80mph.
Public power districts alone reported damages exceeding $13.7 million, and Offutt Air Force Base reported damage to structures and aircraft, including two "Doomsday" planes.
Other Nebraska counties included in the disaster declaration are Banner, Box Butte, Butler, Cuming, Dodge, Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, Morrill, Polk, Sheridan, Sioux, Thurston and Wayne.
