Through a new program, people from all over can drop of their old American flags to be properly disposed.
Through a partnership between the National Association of Counties, the National Flag Foundation and the National Sheriff’s Association, Douglas County now has its first flag disposal box. Anyone can drop off a flag in the box upstairs on the second floor in the Douglas County Commissioners office at 17th and Farnam in downtown Omaha.
Susie Dugan of Douglas County dropped off three Tuesday morning. She had been saving them for 16 years until she found a way to properly get rid of them.
“This flag means everything to our country,” she said.
Douglas County Commissioner and NACo 2nd Vice President Mary Ann Borgeson plans to add more boxes in various Douglas County offices throughout the year to make the program convenient for residents.
