Ralston woman arrested for child abuse

A Ralston woman is accused of child abuse after doctors discovered her 2-month-old had a broken leg.

Ralston Police arrested 22-year-old Brittany Burgess on Wednesday after an investigation into the child’s injuries began on Dec. 21.

Police say doctors discovered the child had a broken leg when Burgess brought him in for a second appointment because he was still fussy after getting treatment earlier in the day for constipation.

A doctor who looked at the baby’s X-ray told investigators the leg was broken more than a week earlier and more recently broken a second time, according to court documents.

Burgess denied abusing the baby, but said the injury might have happened while changing his diaper, police said.

In an affidavit, the investigating officer quoted Burgess as saying, “They are going to take him away because of one mistake, one mistake.”

She faces one count of felony child abuse.
