With the Memorial Day holiday coming up, lakes around the metro are expected to be packed.
Nebraska Game and Parks gave 3 News Now some safety tips for boating over the weekend, and all of the time.
The first is to always wear a life jacket. No matter how strong of a swimmer you are, information officer Greg Wagner say when you are up against waves, currents and rocky unstable environments, the situation can change quickly. Furthermore, Wagner said life jackets should be properly zipped and secured.
Not wearing life jackets is the no. 1 cause of fatalities on the water.
Wagner also mentioned the dangers of drinking and driving a boat. The same rules apply to boating and drinking and drinking and driving.
