OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The 192nd Military Police Detachment, based in Omaha, is deploying to the Middle East for nine months.
They will first do pre-deployment training at Fort Bliss, Texas for approximately one month, a Nebraska National Guard spokesperson told 3 News Now on Sunday.
The spokesperson said the group's mission is to provide law enforcement on U.S. military bases.
"I can't tell you how proud all Nebraskans are of your service to our state and to our country," Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts said at send-off ceremony on Sunday morning at Creighton Prep.
Ricketts thanked the soldiers for their service during the 2019 floods where they directed traffic away from flooded roadways, as well as in 2020 for helping with the state’s COVID-19 response and keeping people safe during protests last June in Omaha.
The 192nd previously deployed to Iraq in 2010 and Qatar in 2015.
3 News Now was told that this is the first overseas deployment for about half of the 45 departing soldiers.
